What Is the Perseverance Penguin Process?

A Penguin Is Made

Hand-sewn with care, the penguins are primarily made by Er Brady, plus plenty of volunteers at penguin plushie-making events. Then we place a sticker on them with a QR code to this website, where people can learn about both penguin conservation and homelessness.

A Penguin is Given a Home

The penguins are then sold at events where people can purchase a penguin and learn about homelessness and penguin conservation. In addition, people can volunteer to make a penguin to be purchased!

A Penguin Raises Money to Fight Homelessness

With the exception of about $15 per 8 penguins sold (used for the plushie-making materials), the funds from selling the penguins are then donated to an organization that helps fight homelessness. As we do more events, we hope to donate to multiple places.

Why Combine Penguins and Homelessness?

Most people know penguins for their cuteness and/or their loyalty. What most don't know is their endurance.

For example, male Emperor penguins can go without food for four months while watching over their egg, waiting for their partner to return with food. Another example is how adult Adélie penguins tend to swim anywhere between 5 to 120 meters offshore to get food for their chicks, and these feeding trips can last 72 hours!

People without houses have to have plenty of endurance as well, hence the first connection between penguins and homelessness. The other connection is how —due to factors such as climate change and overfishing— penguins are also losing their homes.

Both penguins and homeless people need help.
